Uinta Basin
The Uinta Basin, located in northeastern Utah, is one of the most prolific energy-producing regions in the western United States. Renowned for its unique waxy crude oil, the basin’s rich hydrocarbon resources have played a vital role in meeting domestic energy demand while supporting economic growth and development throughout the region.
Since 2012, Finley Resources’ operations team has drilled more than 360 vertical wells and 120 horizontal wells in Utah, making Finley the most active driller in the Uinta Basin. Combined with sister company Uinta Wax, Finley is one of the largest producers of waxy crude in Utah.
Finley Resources also helped pioneer the rail export market in Utah, which increased production capacity from ~85,000 BPD to over 200,000 BPD. The emergence of rail exports has been one of the most significant developments in the modern history of the Uinta Basin. By expanding crude oil takeaway capacity, rail transportation opened access to premium markets beyond the region. This growth has supported increased production, attracted investment, created jobs, and generated economic benefits that extend throughout local communities and the broader regional economy.
